Doris Sparks Marion, 80, a resident of Pleasant Garden passed away on Tuesday evening with her family by her bedside. Doris was born November 15, 1936 in Rockingham County, the daughter of the late William Thomas and Annie Maude Perdue Sparks.
Doris was a graduate of Greensboro High School (Grimsley). She was employed with the P. Lorillard Tobacco Co. for many years and later worked as a Driver’s License Examiner in Greensboro and retired as a Hearing Officer for the State of North Carolina. After retiring Doris and her husband Bill owned and operated Marion's Corner Mart on Pleasant Garden Rd. in Pleasant Garden. She was a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church.
Doris was married to William "Bill" Norman Marion who passed away on December 19, 2013 after spending over 60 years together.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Marion and wife Patsy of Randleman; daughters, Donna Teresa Wadsworth of Myrtle Beach, SC, Tamela Cheryl Cannon of Georgetown, SC, Lisa Caudle of Greensboro; her sister, Wanda Sparks Cates and husband Richard of Greensboro; grandchildren, Seth Marion and wife Lisa, Shea Murphy, Brooks Klaasmeyer and husband Brian, Holly Hammond and husband Brian, Reid Wadsworth, Austin Bain and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Dr. Lawrence Clapp. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
