Mrs. Doris Gardner Hodgin, 87, a resident of Jamestown died Friday September 26, 2014 at the Adams Farm Living and Rehab. She was born April 13, 1927 in High Point the daughter of Henry G. and Mary Tinsbloom Gardner. Doris was a former employee with Oakdale Cotton Mill and she along with her husband operated the store in the Mill Village. She was for many years a member of Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church and then in her later years attended Oakdale United Methodist Church.
On December 13, 1947 she was married to Emmitt Earl Hodgin who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Dorothy Rhew, Vera Gardner and brothers, Lawrence, Austin and Rev. Ernest Gardner.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy H. Castevens (David) of Winston-Salem, Gwen H. Sams (John) of Greensboro; one son, William Dale Floyd (Lois) of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Michael Floyd (Lynn), Lisa Davis (Richie), Carissa Nickerson (Kenny), Scott Castevens; 10 great grandchildren and one great -great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by Chaplain Craig S. Walker. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
