Doris Blalock Hamlin, a resident of Greensboro passed away after a brief illness at Moses H. Cone Hospital on Tuesday August 14, 2018. She was born in Burlington, the daughter of the late Elmer Vaught and Bernice Long Blalock.
Doris was educated in the Burlington school system and was a graduate of the Duke University School of Nursing. Before retiring she was the Registered Nurse for the N.C. General Assembly in Raleigh and later for the Society for the Prevention of Blindness. Even though her schooling was at Duke, she was a true Tar Heel fan attending all football games with her husband Edwin “Ed” Jones Hamlin who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Blalock Daniels and her brother, William Bernard Blalock.
Doris was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and had a beautiful voice that she shared in the church choir. Before moving to Greensboro she was a longtime resident of Raleigh and she cherished the time she spent with her friends and loved entertaining in her home in Raleigh. While living in Raleigh she was a member of Highland United Methodist Church and the church choir.
Surviving are her daughter, Kimberly Mangum Carle (John Fowlkes) and her daughter Caroline Noel Mangum; step-son, Robert Hamlin (Cathy) and their son Jeff Hamlin and his daughters, Hailey and Kirsten; step-daughter, Sarah Hamlin; cousins, Tommie Lu Skipper (Chuck) and their sons, Corey and Jason, Tiffany Wells (Melvin) and their children Olivia and Stockton.
A Service to Celebrate Doris’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Jamestown United Methodist Church officiated by the Reverend Jim Watford. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
An option to flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Guilford County Animal Shelter as she loved so many special dogs throughout her life.
