A memorial service, celebrating his life, will be held at 4:30pm, Wednesday afternoon, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory St. Chapel, with Pastor David Hill officiating. Military honors will follow the service, conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard. At Donnie’s request, dress comfortably, no ties please, as he disliked them so much.
Born in Greensboro, to the late Al and Gladys White, Donnie was a veteran of the United States Navy SEABEES. After serving two tours in Vietnam, he returned home, to the family plumbing business, where he honed his craft, working with his father, uncle, and cousins. The past twenty-nine years, he was a plumber/pipefitter at Lorillard Tobacco Company. Donnie was a graduate of Smith High School and was also a Mason. In addition to his parents, Donnie was reunited with his younger brother, James Darrell White, and his stepdaughter, Amy Kirkman Widener, in Heaven.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 39 years, Patricia Barrett White; sons, Mike and Danny White; stepson, Robert Kirkman; grandchildren, Matthew, Madison, Cheyenne, Jessica, Dustin, Wade, Austin, Chase; great-granddaughter, Michelle; his sisters, Ellen Schlosser and Marilyn Mongold, all of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm, Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the funeral home.
