Services will be held at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel on Wednesday December 11, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Billy McDaniel and Rev. Warren Cassidy officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Donald started his own business over fifty years ago and the company survives to this day. Donald was very active in the restoration of antique trucks. He attended Shining Light Baptist Church.
As a member of the Historical Truck Society and the Corbitt Preservation Association, he showcased several trucks from his antique collection. He was nationally recognized in several publications for his many years of dedication to the trucking industry and for his unique collection of antique trucks and automobiles.
He was preceded in death by a precious daughter, Marie Kimberly Smith; his parents, Weldon Thomas and Florence Smith; sisters, Louise Spencer, Ann Carter, Lucy Rogers; brother Weldon Smith.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ann Paschal Smith. Donald and Ann would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 23, 2013. He is survived by his two sons, Allen (Frances) and Randy Smith of Greensboro; two daughters, Gwen Long of Greensboro and Mitzi Green of Clayton, NC; grandchildren, Joey (Sarah) Smith of Austin, TX, Robert (Elaine) Smith of Greensboro, NC, Claire and Miranda Long of Greensboro, MacKenzi and Hayden Green of Clayton, NC and one great grandchild, Noah Smith of Austin, TX.
His family would like to express their sincere gratitude and would like to recognize the many friends and employees who contributed to the development and success of Donald A. Smith Trucking Company.
Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 7:00- 9:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation, or to the American Cancer Society
in Donald’s memory.
