Donald graduated from Sumner High School and was retired from the City of Greensboro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Elizabeth Riggs and son Donald Ray Riggs, Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Honeycutt Riggs of the home; sons, Bobby Earl Riggs (Wendy Atkinson) of Greensboro, Howard Lee Riggs (Amy Richardson) of Greensboro; daughter, Casi Cleven of Lexington; brothers, Edward Armfield (Cindy) of Greensboro, David Armfield (Allison) of Greensboro; nine grandchildren, Megan Chelette, Logan Ray Riggs, Gracie Elizabeth Riggs, Jeremy Hinson, Aaron Hinson, Howard Lee Riggs, Jr., Kimberly Joiner, Patsy Matthews, Chase Carver and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday January 25, 2024 in the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Interment with Military Honors presented by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
