David William Libby

David William Libby, 67, passed away on May 19, 2011 at Moses Cone Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:00am at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel.

David was born on March 30, 1944 in Portland ME to the late Ole and Iva Libby. After the unfortunate death of Iva when David was two, he was lovingly raised by his father and stepmother Girlandine Priest Libby. He was a graduate of the University of Maine earning a PhD in Animal Science. He taught Animal Science at Tuskegee Institute from 1970-1980 and at North Carolina A&T State University from 1980-2006, where he had served as Interim Chair. He was a member of the American Association of Animal Science, Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society and the American College of Animal Nutrition. He had also served as President of the Humane Society. He loved doing woodwork, playing the guitar and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents. David is survived by his wife Gail of forty-four years, son Billy Libby and wife Megan, and grandson Nate Libby.

The family will visit with friends from 10:15-11:00am at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm.
