David Leon Barham, 67, of Harkers Island, formerly of Greensboro, NC, died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC after a battle with lung cancer. He was born August 29, 1949 in Greensboro, NC. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Barham of Harkers Island, and a nephew who he helped raise who he considered a son, William Purcell and his wife Janet, and two great-nephews he considered his grandchildren, Liam and Kenyon Purcell. He is also survived by four brothers, Larry, Curtis, Eddie, and Ray Barham, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Francis Barham, and by a brother, Johnny Parrish. David served in the Air Force and retired from Resco Products after 33 years. David loved to help others and was known for his generosity. He loved to fish and spend time on the water around the shores of Cape Lookout.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Huggins Memorial Baptist Church, Harkers Island followed by a lunch in the fellowship hall. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. A visitation will be held at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
