Daniel Russell Shuping, known as Russell, passed away April 13, 2024 from complications of a traumatic brain injury. Russell was born and raised in Greensboro. He and his beloved wife, Deb, lived in Greensboro and Summerfield for many years, but recently moved to Kernersville.
Russ was a furniture designer and began his career with the Lane Company. Later he started his own firm, D. Russell Shuping Designs, where he created beautiful furniture which was sold around the globe. He was a skilled draftsman, woodworker, and artist with an engineer’s mind. He retired last year but continued to make designs for people and work with wood out of his home.
Deb and Russ were married 36 years and were devoted to each other. They loved the North Carolina mountains and enjoyed taking small weekend or day trips to local places of interest. They loved dogs and often had a brood of golden retrievers or Labradors that filled their lives with joy. They had just acquired their newest pup, Bow, two days before Russ’s injury.
Russell was very close and dedicated to his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Hampton and Margaret Shuping of Greensboro. In addition to his wife, Deborah French Shuping, he is survived by four siblings, Jane Shuping Tyndall of Denver, Ruth Shuping Murphy of Pittsboro, Hampton Shuping Jr of Conway, SC and Sallie Shuping Russell of Chapel Hill along with nephews Edward Tyndall, Eric Shuping and Jason Shuping, and nieces Margaret Tyndall Hanks, Martha Murphy, Caroline Russell Howe, Margaret Taylor Russell See, and Katie Russell Martin. The family wants to thank Vera Parker-Ross, a devoted friend to Deb and Russell.
A celebration of Russ’s life will be held April 30 at 11:00 am at Westminster Gardens Mausoleum, 3601 Whitehurst Road, Greensboro, NC. A reception will follow with details at the service.
