Dale Vincent Fowler

Caribou, Maine - Dale V. Fowler, 91, passed away January 13, 2021 in Greensboro, N.C. He was born on June 2, 1929, in Woodland (Aroostook County), the son of Aquila and Nettie Fowler. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elbert Fowler, sisters Evelyn Gooding and Elizabeth Cochran. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Betty (Michaud) Fowler of Browns Summit, N.C. and Sebring, FL; daughters Paula Fowler, Maia Fowler (Robert McElwain) all of Browns Summit, N.C.; son David Fowler (Joyce) of Greensboro, N.C.; granddaughters Erin (Justin) Souder, Megan Fowler, Courtney Fowler; grandsons Cole McElwain, MacKenzie McElwain; great grandsons Greyson Souder, Rowan McElwain, and Ian McElwain; brother Russell (Marguerite) of Spring Hill, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was a graduate of Caribou High School. He held a B.S. in Education, and an M.S. in Educational Administration. He worked many jobs in his lifetime, including deputy sheriff, teacher, principal, potato farmer, potato broker and shipper, grant writer, cooperative education program coordinator, pesticide control board inspector, and mail carrier.

Dale was actively involved in the community and in his church wherever he lived. He was Noble Grand for Caribou Chapter of IOOF; town selectman and tax collector for the Town of Woodland; and he volunteered at the Sebring International Raceway and South Florida State College Performing Arts Center with his wife Betty.

Dale was very involved with youth programs. He had as much fun as the students while he was a chaperone on band trips; traveling with FFA students to the Big E; and coaching his daughters’ summer softball team. Dale was also very athletic, being a record holder on the University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team for several years. He even allowed the barn at the family farm to be converted into Cow Palace.

Dale always loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Summers spent at Madawaska Lake with family were full of fun and excitement. He loved doing things like playing hide and seek, building a float the size of a garage, and teaching others how to water ski. And he was always ready for any kind of card game you wanted to play.
