Greensboro, NC: Cynthia Vaughn Price died at Well-Spring Retirement Community on October 26, 2012, a week and a half after her 103rd birthday. A Memorial Service, conducted by The Reverend David Partington and The Reverend Lou East, will be held on Tuesday, October 30 at 2 p.m. in the Richardson Auditorium of Well-Spring. A private burial will take place at Green Hill Cemetery.
A native of Greensboro, Mrs. Price was the daughter of Margaret Smith Vaughn and Robert Galloway Vaughn. She attended the Greensboro Public Schools prior to graduating from Sweet Briar College. During World War II, Mrs. Price served as an Administrative Assistant in the American Red Cross in Honolulu, Hawaii. Later she worked in New York City for Vick Chemical Company.
Mrs. Price was an active civic volunteer and served on the boards of several organizations such as the TB Association, now the Lung Association , as well as The Corporation of Guardianship. She was a member of the Junior League of Greensboro, Little Gate Garden Club, The Assembly, Wednesday Literary Club, and the Belle Meade Society.
She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where her maternal grandfather, The Reverend Doctor Jacob Henry Smith, was the pastor for thirty-eight years. As an active member of the church, Mrs. Price served on numerous committees. She was President of the Women of the Church, a circle leader, and a Friendship Day Coordinator. She served on the Board of Orange Presbytery.
Mrs. Price was one of the earliest residents to move to Well-Spring, where she enjoyed the company of many family members and friends. At Well-Spring she served on the Hospitality and Healthcare Committees and was a healthcare volunteer.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her husband, Francis O. Price, in whose name she established a college scholarship at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where he was a member.
She was also predeceased by her three sisters, Mary Watson Vaughn McAlister, Josephine Vaughn Angle, Margaret Vaughn Vanstory, a brother, Robert Galloway Vaughn, Jr., two nephews Robert Galloway Vaughn III and Robert Vaughn McAlister, and a niece, Sarah (Sallie) Little McAlister.
Mrs. Price is survived by five nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews with whom she was very close. Her nieces and nephews are Margaret M. (Peggy) Sealy, Cornelius M. (Neil) Vanstory III, Mary Watson M. (Watty) Pinson, Peter V. Vanstory, and Doris Price Deal.
After the Memorial Service, the family will greet friends in the Rotunda at Well-Spring Retirement Community.
