Charles Prioleau Scott died Saturday, October 20, 2018. A celebration of his life will be held at the Farm Club House, Greensboro Country Club, 5121 Hedrick Dr. on Tuesday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m. with the Revs. Tim Patterson and Edward Scott officiating. The family will greet friends at a reception following the service.
Charlie was born January 1, 1932 in Graham, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father and mother William deRosset Scott and Valeria Prioleau Scott, his brother William deRosset Scott, Jr. and his son Charles Prioleau Scott, Jr. He graduated from Fishburne Military School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He and the former Ann Patterson of Edenton were married in August of 1954. After serving three years in the U.S. Air Force as a multi-rated pilot in the Strategic Air Command, he and his then family of four moved to Greensboro. He began his career in real estate and retired from Scott Realty Co. in 2011, having worked as an appraiser and in residential and commercial real estate for fifty years.
Active in the business and civic life of Greensboro, Charlie has served as a Jaycee, treasurer and director of the Greensboro Cerebral Palsy School, director of Home Federal Savings & Loan Association, secretary and director of the Greensboro Country Club, vestryman and senior warden of St. Francis Episcopal Church, president of the Greensboro Board of Realtors, vice-president of the North Carolina Association of Realtors, and president of the North Carolina Real Estate Educational Foundation, He served as an instructor of the Realtors Institute in Chapel Hill and was honored in 1967 as Greensboro's Realtor of the Year. He was a member of the Greensboro Kiwanis Club for fifty years. He was quite a sports enthusiast, especially playing and watching golf and lettered in track, running the high and low hurdles and various races during his college years.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Ann, his daughter, Kathryn Scott Long and husband Bobby, of Greensboro, his son Edward Chisolm Scott and wife Noelle of Concord, North Carolina, his daughter Ann Scott Arthur and husband David of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren, Katie Stevenson, Robert Long, III and his wife Etta, Lessie Ann Hidalgo Scott and wife Caro, Richard Scott, James Arthur and Elizabeth Arthur, his great-grandchildren Henry and George Stevenson. In addition he is survived by his brother, John Guerard Scott and his wife Stephanie and brother-in-law, Hugh Lester Patterson.
This last year as Charlie's physical strength declined he continued to fight courageously. The nursing staff's love, encouragement and care helped him on this difficult journey. In addition, we thank Dr. Richard Aaronson for his expertise and guidance.
