He moved several times in his early years because of his father's military assignments during WWII. However, the family returned to NC in 1950 and settled permanently in Greensboro. Carroll attended Greensboro public schools, the Julliard School of Music, Wake Forest University, Guilford College and Elon University. He served in the US Marine Corps.
For many years he was involved in construction and real estate development in Guilford County as well as using his beautiful tenor voice at West Market Street United Methodist Church, Temple Emanuel, and Centenary United Methodist Church. In mid-life, he answered the call of the ministry, graduated from Duke Divinity School, and served several congregations in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. After retirement he acted as interim supply minister at Level Cross UMC. He developed a deep affection for that congregation and was greatly saddened when health issues forced him to resign.
He is survived by his wife Michael of the home; a son Carroll Lupton, III, his wife Helen, and their two daughters Katherine and Elizabeth; a daughter Dr. Laura Lupton, her husband, Dr. Dan Campo and their son Daniel Campo, all of Charlotte; and a step-son Scott Barnes, his wife Julie and their daughter Taylor of Durham.
A memorial service was held Saturday April 2 at 11 am at Level Cross United Methodist Church. The family greeted friends following the service.
