Carolyn Quick Clontz

Carolyn Quick Clontz left this world for the next on November 1, 2023, following a long illness. She grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and while attending church activities, met her future husband of 59 years, Jim. After starting their life together in Tennessee, Carolyn and Jim moved to Greensboro in 1975 to be closer to their families.

In her career selling real estate, she enjoyed connecting with people from all parts of the country and walks of life and became lifelong friends with many of her colleagues and customers.

Carolyn’s faith and love of God was central to all aspects of her life. She participated in many mission trips to help build churches throughout the South and Midwest. Carolyn was a devoted deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist in Greensboro, having taught generations of fourth graders about God’s love for them. Her love of working with children included teaching knitting to local elementary school boys and girls as well as traveling to Chile and teaching sewing classes to groups of girls at Hogar Bautista Girls Home in Temuco.

She was loved by all who knew her. A true Wonder Woman, she balanced family, church, community, and work responsibilities without breaking a sweat – unless she was teaching aerobics to senior adults. Carolyn approached everything with a desire to learn and to help others. When her daughter, Stephanie, began playing youth soccer but there was a shortage of coaches, she learned the rules of the game and became a coach. Using her creativity and sewing skills, she helped stock the shelves of a friend’s gift boutique with laundry totes, jewelry bags, book covers, and other custom items to support the shop’s success. At family gatherings, no meal was complete without Carolyn’s homemade macaroni and cheese, and she never left before making sure the dishes were cleaned.

A consummate bargain shopper, Carolyn loved estate sales, thrift stores, and yard sales. She was always on the lookout for a good deal and would not hesitate to get something that she thought a friend or loved one would enjoy.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, James William Clontz of Greensboro, and daughter, Stephanie Clontz Garner (Andrew) of Raleigh. She is also survived by her brother, Forest Quick, Jr. (Judy) of Columbia, South Carolina. She had many nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom she adored. Carolyn is pre-deceased by her parents Forest and Thelma Quick of Columbia, South Carolina, and sister Barbara Denton of Middleburg, Florida.

The family will receive visitors at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel, 515 N. Elm St., Greensboro, on Friday, November 10 from 6:00-8:00 PM. A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Avenue, on Saturday, November 11 at 10:00 AM. Please visit fbcgso.org/memorial to livestream the service.
