Carmelita Gonzales French Connally, 91, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Hospice Home of High Point. Her Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Visitation with the family will be held following the service at the church.
Carmelita was born August 11, 1930, the only child of the late Arthur Brantley French and the late Molly Leonard French. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her handsome prince of over 60 years, Lawrence Arthur Connally. While Carmelita always tried to be content whatever her circumstances, losing him cast a sadness about her that did not completely lift until she joined him in Heaven.
Left to remember her and to be forever grateful for her are her children, Delores Mitchell and her husband Doug, Eddie Rider and his wife Sheryl, and Donna Marie Amy and her husband Doug. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren who adored their Maw-Maw and who learned of the love of God at her feet. She is also survived by her dear and faithful friend Linda Hill. It was humbling to her, and something she pondered often, that she had,in her lifetime, touched six generations.
Carmelita lived her life in service to others. She was trained as a Nurse’s Aide and was a member of the second ever training class for Hospice of Greensboro. After retirement, she trained for and served as Hospital Chaplain for many years. A lifelong keeper of journals, she also wrote a 365-Day Devotional for Nurse’s Aides entitled “Be Still and Know.”
Carmelita Connally left an impact on everyone she came in contact with, whether she knew them or not. Her dedication to others and her commitment to service, along with everything else in her life, sprang from one overriding love - Jesus. Always and only Jesus. She loved Him beyond measure and believed Him without question.
Today, I imagine, they are still catching up.
