Brenda Kay Meadows Cooper passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Clapp’s Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden, NC, at the age of 82, after years of declining health. Brenda was born on November 22, 1942, in Greensboro, NC, to Marjorie Morgan Meadows and Marvin Meadows.
Brenda graduated in 1961 from Greensboro Senior High School, now Grimsley High School, where she was editor of the yearbook (Whirligig) her senior year. Through the years she remained in close contact with her lifelong friends from her high school and was instrumental in planning many high school reunions.
Brenda continued her education at Woman’s College (UNCG), majoring in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at the Children’s Home in Winston-Salem, NC where she took a personal interest in all of her students.
After teaching for several years, Brenda was offered a position at UNCG as the Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs. She was later promoted to the position of Alumni Director and held that position until she retired after 30 years of service with the state.
As a second career, Brenda was a wedding planner/director, and she also taught a class in those areas at GTCC. She worked at the Senior Resources Center of Guilford with Mobile Meals.
Brenda was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Educators. She served as the President and newsletter editor in the Alpha Chapter, Greensboro.
Brenda was a lifelong member of Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church. In her youth, she was active in UMYF, and in her later years, she planned programs and trips for OPALS (older adult members) at the church.
Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, James Lewis Cooper, and her many treasured dogs and cats. She is survived by her sister, Vicki Simmons, and numerous cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407, with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Resources of Guilford for Mobile Meals or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
