Bobby G Whitaker

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11:00 am, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, with Rev. Gene Cheek officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born in Surry Co., NC, May 12, 1940, to the late Arthur B. Whitaker and Percie Cockerham Whitaker, Bobby was a faithful member of Southeast Church of the Nazarene. He served as an Usher at the church and took part in helping to build the church’s new sanctuary. He was a loving, caring, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, and bowling. He also offered his time to help as a volunteer at Clapps Nursing Home.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 50 years, Diane Garrett Whitaker of the home; Penny Fountain and husband Dennis of Salisbury, Wendy Lemmond and husband Michael of Pleasant Garden, and Tammy Walker and husband Jeff of Kernersville; grandchildren, Bobbi Diane Fountain, Marshall Gray Lemmond, and Jacob Allen Walker; siblings, Melvin Whitaker, Patsy Price, Gerri Williams, and Alton Whitaker.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Friday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at The Cone Health Cancer Center and to the devoted nurses at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
