He was born to the late Ernest and Dorothy Harvey on December 4th, 1930 in Greensboro, NC. Bill graduated from Jamestown High School in 1949 and proceeded to spend his entire life residing in the Greensboro area.
Bill spent over 40 years traveling the country playing golf for a living. During that time, he won over 300 championships and received many prestigious awards, including being inducted into the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame as well as the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame. He then went on to open the Sedgefield Driving Range where he was able to pass on his love for the game to others in the community.
Bill is survived by his brother, Bob Harvey; daughter, Terry Harvey Swain; three sons, Bill Harvey, Scott Harvey and Justin Harvey; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Carolina’s Golf Association, PO Box 319, West End, NC 27376. This was an organization that was a very important part of Bill’s life.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with burial to follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
