Greensboro, NC- Ms. Beverly Dodd Cashwell, 85, formerly of Orlando and Jacksonville, died November 30, 2013 in Greensboro, NC. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2 PM at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
Beverly was born to Thomas McRae and Mary Pierson Dodd in Jacksonville. She attended FSU and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority later serving as the sorority president (Winter Park chapter) in the 1950’s. Beverly was raised in Orlando but in 1969, she and her daughter, Leslie moved to Jacksonville. She retired from the City of Jacksonville, tax collections division as a supervisor after 25 years of service.
Her friends will remember Beverly as the life of the party. She enjoyed life and loved socializing. Beverly wasn’t shy about sharing her thoughts and one always knew where she stood. Throughout her life she never gave up her love of golf. It was her passion and outlet and she served as marshal of several tournaments. She was also a wonderful cook and baker. Her grandsons knew her affectionately as “Bambi” and will remember great vacations with her during the summers. She enjoyed gardening, yard work and volunteering at the Jacksonville Hospice.
She is survived by her daughter and husband, Leslie and Terry Murphy of Greensboro, NC; grandsons, Patrick Timothy Murphy of Greensboro, Matthew Ryan Murphy of Raleigh, NC and Andrew Thomas Murphy of Charlotte, NC; four great grandsons, William Cashwell Murphy, Pierson Thomas Murphy, Henry Dodd Murphy, and Brooks Kirkpatrick Murphy.
