Services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Johnsen officiating. The family visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27th at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel from 4:00- 6:00 pm. Interment will be private.
Betty was born in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Abe and Lora Pruitt. She graduated from Flat Rock High School in May 1947. Betty then moved to Winston-Salem and worked for Hanes Hosiery and was recruited to play on their basketball team. It was while in Winston, she met her husband of 62 years, Kenneth John Smith.
Betty and K.J. began K.J. Smith Builders and Realty in the late 1950’s where she held the position of Secretary/Treasurer for over 60 years and was an integral part of the success of the company and the beautiful homes they built in Greensboro.
Betty was a devoted member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, and loved her time in the Laws Parks Sunday School class.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth John Smith, her sister Catherine Marshall, and brother, Bob Pruitt.
She is survived by her children: Julia Gordon and husband Russell and R. Keith Smith and wife Glenda all of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Korie Lovette (Darren), Stuart Smith (Mary) of Greensboro; Courtney Willingham of Clemmons, and Kristin Staley (David) of Hillsboro.
She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Brock and Katherine Lovette, and Nathan and Patrick Smith, all of Greensboro; Clayton and Lorelei Staley of Hillsboro; her sisters Jewell Boyles of Claudville, VA and Katie McDaniel of Winston, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC 27405 or to Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road Greensboro, NC 27455 in memory of Betty Pruitt Smith.
