Mrs. Betty Sue Jernigan, 83 died peacefully in her sleep Sunday December 4, 2022 at Richland Place Senior Living Memory Care in Greensboro NC. A visitation for Betty will be held Thursday December 8, 2022 from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jim Scott of Awaken Church, officiating. Betty will be laid to rest in Westminster Gardens Cemetery, 3601 Whitehurst Rd, Greensboro NC 27410.
Betty was born April 9, 1939 to the late Tommie Holland and Lela Coats Holland of Benson NC. She was a homemaker and also a retiree of Moses H. Cone food service division. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, Granny and Great-Granny. Her most precious earthly legacy was her family. She loved to sew, crochet, read, garden, and listen to her favorite music. She also loved visiting our vacation home at High Rock Lake with all her family each summer. Betty had a farm girl spirit full of love that remained with her throughout her life and caused her to be cherished by all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of Florida Street Baptist Church until it closed. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer J. Shadrick of Greensboro; her brother, Landis Holland (Martha) of Thomasville, NC; and sister, Sarah Allen of Raleigh NC. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, David M. Shadrick, Jr., (Jen); Kristin S. Ipock (Turner), Danny Jernigan II, and Leanne Jernigan; as well as her great-grandchildren, Rebecca, AnnaBeth and Zachary Shadrick, and Cayden and Sadie Ipock. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kim Jernigan; sister-in-law, Clyda Oakley; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her late husband of 58 years, Z.D Jernigan; son, Danny R. Jernigan; daughter, Laura J. Jernigan; brothers, Larry and Geary Holland; and sister, Barbara Kornegay, all of Benson, NC; as well as her son-in-law, David M. Shadrick and many other in-laws.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Richland Place Memory Care for their devoted and compassionate care for Betty during her illness as well as our appreciation to Community Care and Hospice of Asheboro.
