Bernice Marie Brown

Bernice Marie Shelton Brown, age 98, of Greensboro, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023.Bernice was born in Stokes County on September 22, 1924 to the late Luther Harrison Shelton and Dela Wood Shelton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Henry Brown; a son, Reverend Thomas G. Brown; 3 brothers; and 5 sisters. Bernice was the last of 9 children.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, JoAnn Wooten (Johnny) of Winston-Salem, NC; son, Virgil Richard Brown of the home, (who was her caregiver for 30 years); daughter-in-law, Norma Walker Brown; 4 grandchildren, John Timothy Wooten (Tana) of Winston-Salem, NC, Marie Wooten Smith (Michael) of Bethania, NC, Mark Thomas Brown (Karen) of Graham, NC and Todd Randall Brown (Janine) of Fort Mill, SC; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Ms. Brown was a former member of Sumner Baptist Church where she taught different levels of Sunday School for 49 years. She was currently a member of Northside Baptist Church. Bernice lived by Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. She gave all the honor and the praise to The Lord.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service, from 10:00 until 11:00 am, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
