Barry was born on May 20, 1962 in Durham, North Carolina. After graduating West Wilkes High School, he joined the Air Force in 1981, serving ten years. He met Julie in 1995 and they were married two years later.
Barry was predeceased by his father, Bob, and his beach buddy, Steve. He is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Laura Yow and companion Kyle Roscoe and Will; mother, Louise and sister and brother-in-law, Melody and Ian Chalmers. Barry’s family meant the world to him. Anyone who knew Barry knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
Barry volunteered as head coach for Our Lady of Grace’s cheerleading squad in addition to coaching volleyball, basketball, and football, and chaperoning numerous school field trips for his children. He also managed audio and visual for Bishop Mcguinness High School’s drama department. Barry enjoyed golfing, fishing, target practice at the shooting range, cigars, and visiting Myrtle Beach with his family.
Since Barry was a dedicated dog lover and the military held a special place in his heart, his family asks if you are moved, memorial donations be made to K9s for Warriors, a charity that provides highly trained service dogs to military veterans in need.
His life will be celebrated during a gathering and reception from 10 AM to 12 PM, Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel.
Barry will be missed more than words can say.
“If you’re on time, you’re late. I left early. Love always, Barry.”
