Anthony Matthew Bruno, MD, MPH

Anthony M. Bruno, MD, MPH, 86, of Greensboro, died May 11, 2016, at Heartland Living and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 23, 2016, at 4 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home on Elm Street. The family will receive friends during a reception following the service at the funeral home.
Dr. Bruno was born May 27, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Cosimo and Catherine Lauro Bruno. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother.
He was a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. He earned his MD from the University of California at Irvine Medical School and his MPH from Johns Hopkins University. Through a fellowship program he traveled to Rome, Italy, for two years where he performed cardiovascular surgery on children. Dr. Bruno also worked for the National Institute of Heath and was a Captain in the Public Health Service. He was a Senior Project Scientist on the Artificial Heart Program. He taught medicine at Georgetown University for twenty five years while practicing medicine full time. After retiring from surgery, Dr. Bruno practiced internal medicine in Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD. In 2014, the Bruno’s retired to Greensboro, NC.
Dr. Bruno is survived by his wife of more than thirty years, Louise Taylor Bruno; children, Marc Bruno of San Francisco, CA, Catherine Raven of Emigrant, MT, and Lisa M. Barker (Greg) of Grass Valley, CA; brother, Joseph Bruno of Palm Desert, CA, and grandson, Kai Barker.
