Blake, Anthony Groverman (“Tony”) of Greensboro, North Carolina, died peacefully on January 11, 2025. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on September 20, 1937, Tony studied chemical engineering at Purdue and Yale Universities, and worked at Exxon and Gilbarco. His career took the family to live in New Jersey, Germany, England, and North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara Hibbs Blake. He is survived by daughters Ginny Blake (Jackie MacCallum) of Belmont, MA, and Eliza Blake (Udai Kogalur) of Winston-Salem, NC; goddaughter Virginia Treacy Burke; sister Mary Bicknell; grandchildren Jessie, Alysia, Hope, Aril, and Aster; great-grandchildren Jorden, Kayelynn, and Kaiden; and many nieces and nephews.
Tony’s family would like to thank the staff at Well-Spring Retirement Community’s memory care unit for their compassion and care over the past two years.
Visiting hours will be held at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home at 515 N Elm Street in Greensboro on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 2 to 4 pm. A private interment will follow at a later date in Massachusetts.
