Annie Mae Keck Butler

A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm, Friday, January 5, 2018 at Pleasant Union United Methodist Church, 5929 Coble Church Road, Liberty, with Rev. Keith Newell officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Ann was born January 6, 1922, in Guilford County, NC and graduated from Nathanael Greene High School. Ann’s first job was as an assistant with the Nathanael Greene cafeteria. She later managed the Belk department store candy department located in downtown Greensboro. She held this position until the store closed its doors in the 1970’s.

Ann and her husband Edward Daniel (E.D.) Butler spent the early years of their marriage living in Greensboro and later moved to rural southeast Guilford County. After E.D. passed, Ann began caring for a number of neighborhood children, watching them after school and during the summer months. These children became a part of Ann’s extended family, and because of the close relationships she developed with them and others in the community, she became affectionately known as “Aunt Ann.” As years past, Ann started working at Fran’s Front Porch, where she spent most weekends cooking for the restaurant’s many guests. Ann spent her life serving others and will be remembered as an extremely hard worker who cared deeply for those closest to her. Ann was a life-long and active member of Pleasant Union United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband Edward D. Butler, one sister, Grace Deaton and one brother, Lee Roy Keck, who passed away two days prior. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Hanner of Wingate, many special nieces, nephews and extended family members.
