Amy Ann Snelling Perez, 91, of 912 Monticello Street, Greensboro gently entered into her long awaited eternal rest at home with her family, on Wednesday, November 20th 2013. Amy was born in Parksville, S.C. on July 29, 1922, and grew up in Charlotte. She was the daughter of Thomas Ervin and Marie Blackwell Snelling. Amy graduated from Coker College and then Columbia University in New York, and attended seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After serving as a nurse and a medical clinical instructor at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, the Lord called her to serve as a missionary in the Baptist Hospital, Asuncion, Paraguay. It was there that she met her loving and devoted husband, Jose. They were married in 1958 in Paraguay but returned to the states in 1960 to start their family. In 1967 Amy assisted her husband in establishing the first Spanish-speaking protestant church in Charlotte, and continued to serve the Latin congregation for 35 years. Their marriage of 55 years was a life of joy and love for one another, their three sons and their families. Above all things, Amy’s life was a life lived in service to her Savior. She loved Christ Jesus, and finished very well.
Amy is survived by her husband, Jose R. Perez of the home; sons Jose R. Perez, Jr. (Jeannie) of Atlanta, John T. Perez (Jane) of Greensboro, and David A. Perez (Laurie) of Trinity; nine grandchildren, three of which are married. Matthew (Karlin) and Jennifer, then James (Carley), Josh (Jordan), Jonathan, and Jordan, and then Rebekah, Phillip and Benjamin. In addition she is survived by her sister Marie Snelling Jones of Greensboro. The family would like to acknowledge the loving service of Amy’s in-home caregivers: Renea Coleman, Teresa Coleman, Adealia Bailey, Traundra Carter, LaShonda Keith, and Ardale Gant.
The family will receive friends 45 minutes prior to the funeral service in the church vestibule from 10 until 10:45 am. The service will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 23rd at Providence Presbyterian Church, 4600 Lake Brandt Road, Greensboro, with a 3:30 P.M. graveside service in Charlotte at Forest Lawn Cemetery, West.
