He was born on April 13th, 1928, to the late William Anderson McHone and Daisy Manring McHone in Lawsonville, NC. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman during the Korean War. He retired from Canteen Vending Services after 38 years, where he served as a shop steward for the Teamsters Union. He was a member of Christ Wesleyan Church.
A.J. was a dedicated man who loved spending time with his family. He had a passion for all types of music. He had an inquisitive mind throughout his life and remained active on current events until his death.
Mr. McHone was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Worthington; grandson, Joey McHone, as well as several brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 63 and a half years, Betty Worth McHone; children, Donald J. McHone (Sally) of Brentwood, TN, Michael A. McHone of Buzzards Bay, MA, Larry D. McHone of Greensboro, NC, Elizabeth McHone Knight (Alan) of Raleigh, NC, Robert W. McHone (Edie) of Greensboro, NC; son-in-law, Frank Worthington of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Will McHone, Nicole McHone, Benjamin McHone, Valecia Hopper (Josh), Worth Knight, Reece Knight, Payne Knight, Jack McHone, Lillian McHone, Dot McHone and great- grandchildren, Gehrig and Allie Hopper.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Christ Wesleyan Church with the Reverend Johnathan Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy, NC. The family visitation will be held on Wednesday May 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street.
The family wishes to share gratitude to the professional healthcare staff at Moses Cone Hospital and Heartland Rehab who touched his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Wesleyan Church, 2400 S. Holden Road Greensboro, NC 27407 in memory of Mr. Alonza McHone.
