Allen W. Lewis

Allen was born in Guilford County, the son of the late George W. Lewis and Lucille Watts Lewis. He served 17 years for his country in the US Merchant Marines and the US Army, 11th Airborne Division during WW II. He also served in the US Naval Reserve Seabees. Allen served as a Greensboro Police Officer for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Sedgefield Baptist Church. Allen was a man of true character, honor and integrity.

Allen was preceded in death by his first wife, Merle P. Lewis; son, Larry Wayne Lewis; second wife, Carolyn B. Lewis; sister, Mary L. Mills and brother, Richard W. Lewis. Surviving is his brother, Donald M. Lewis and Brenda of Climax, NC; step-son, Kenneth Hinson and wife Deborah of Greensboro, NC; step-daughter, Anne Plummer and husband Dave of Raleigh, NC; step grandson, Darryl Miller and wife Michelle of Raleigh, NC and step grandchildren, Kyle and Ava Jane Miller of Raleigh and four nieces and one nephew. Also a very caring friend, Virginia Rogers.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Dr. Deryl Holliday officiating. Burial will full military honors will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dillon Road Baptist Church (formerly Sedgefield Baptist Church), 3136 Dillon Road, Jamestown, NC 27282.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
