On July 11, 2008, the Lord blessed this world with the beautiful spirit of Aliyah Marie Thornhill. Aliyah was born to her parents Maurice Andre Thornhill and Ayonna Daquan Thornhill Suttles in Lake County Ohio. It was evident that Aliyah was a special soul the moment that she was born as was her love of life and curiosity. Aliyah began to walk and explore her surroundings by the age of eight months and developed a special bond with both of her parents. Aliyah moved to Cary, NC with her family in 2010 where she would continue to grow and leave an impact on the people that she would meet.
Aliyah loved being with family and friends and enjoyed making people laugh and smile. It was clear that she was meant to bring joy to this world, and it was clearly seen whenever she was in front of a camera. She had a smile that would light up any room and loved to pose and make funny faces. As a child, Aliyah loved traveling with her family, camping, swimming, day trips with her mother, cooking with her father and playing video games with her brother and being a little sister. Aliyah loved to play dress up and enjoyed giving video commentary on camera to celebrate special events in her families’ lives. At the age of five, she made her first trip to Disney Land and was so excited to meet one of her favorite princesses, Elsa from Frozen.
Aliyah attended grade school in Greensboro, NC where her love for music, theater and dancing began to flourish. She learned to play the piano, joined a dance studio and performed in dance recitals and a production of Grease where she touched the hearts of so many people. Aliyah finished middle school at Northwest Middle School in Greensboro and transferred to Riverside High School in Durham, NC where she continued to pursue her dreams. She joined the drama club and the school orchestra where she was learning to play the violin. She performed in the schools play, A Ghost for Rosanda and was amazing. She was an absolute natural on stage and everyone knew it.
Aliyah enjoyed other cultures and was never bothered by the differences that people have. She was an example to us all on how people should be treated. Along with her mother and father, Aliyah leaves behind two brothers, Darnae and Marquise Thornhill, two grandparents Devora Favors and Rosemary Miller and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that will all miss her greatly. Although her time on this earth was short, we are all blessed to have had the time to know this beautiful spirit. Aliyah has left an eternal mark in this world and her memory and spirit will carry on until the end of time.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00, Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services of Greensboro, 1900 Vanstory Street, Greensboro, NC. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 – 2:00.
