Alice Lee Hatton Burch entered the arms of God on September 13, 2023 at Spring Arbor of Greensboro. Alice was born on October 12, 1934 in Atlanta, GA to the late Harmon and Sallie Hatton. After high school, she attended Tift College in Forsyth, GA and began her career as an English teacher in Conyers, GA. Alice taught high school for one year and then decided to attend seminary at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where she met Ward Burch on the library steps. They were married in August 1960 and were married for 60 years before Ward’s passing in July 2021. She was a devoted Pastor’s wife as they served five churches in Georgia and North Carolina. Alice continued her love of teaching and retired from Western Rockingham County School System in 1999 after teaching middle school Language Arts for 20 years. In retirement, she was active in Greensboro Christian Women’s Club and mission activities at First Baptist Church Greensboro. She participated in the Joy Sunday School Class and established wonderful friendships with her classmates.
The favorite role in life for Alice was being Nannie to her grandchildren. She loved reading to them and making sure to sing Jesus Loves Me before bedtime. There were many cookie baking sessions in her kitchen and she shared those chocolate chip cookies with her church’s youth group when they traveled on mission trips.
In addition to her husband and parents, Alice was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Katherine Albright Gunn.
Surviving are her children, Scott Burch of Atlanta GA and Anita Wilson, along with husband Patrick, of Greensboro NC., six grandchildren, Seth Wilson, Caleb Wilson, Carson Burch, Garrett Burch, Chelsea Rodriguez and Lauren Rodriguez and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by two special nephews, David Albright and Tim Albright.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Spring Arbor of Greensboro for their loving care of Alice, especially the wonderful caregivers of Cottage One, and the team from Authoracare Collective.
