William Thomas Keller

Tom was born in Greeneville on April 7, 1950 to Cora Clyde (Morris) and Lacy Lawrence Keller of the Lost Mountain Community.

He was a forty two year employee of Greene Valley Developmental Center. He began his career there in chronic care nursing working his way thorough the ranks from technician to shift charge to the psychology department. He stated many times how much he enjoyed his job and how fortunate he was to have been a part of GVDC.

Tom had an exceptionally charismatic personality, never meeting a stranger. As an avid reader and a naturally curious person, he enjoyed conversing on a variety of subjects. Tom was known for his love of music. He was an accomplished self taught musician, he could make a fiddle sing but also played banjo, mandolin, guitar, dobro and pedal steel guitar. Tom’s passion for music drew him to live music events of all types of music with bluegrass, old time, and old country being his favorites. He was never happier than when he planned going to the next event and had exceptional seats. He always said “don’t go if you can’t read the pedheads on the guitars.”

Tom leaves to cherish his memory a daughter: Jana Keller Riddle and husband Curtis; a sister: Carolyn Hawkins; niece: April Hensley; great nephews: Gavin and Eric Hensley; brother: Dr. Dale Keller and wife Molly; nephew: Dr. Carlson Keller. He is also survived by special friends Sherry and Randy Lewis whom he thought of as family.

He will be missed by the Hyperion family and the crew at Aunt Bea’s.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dharmen Patel, nurse practitioner Lorraine Rebuck, and the entire staff of Tennessee Cancer Specialists for the exceptional care he received. He considered the entire staff as a whole new group of friends and looked forward to seeing them.

A celebration of life will be held at the Hyperion on November 3, 2024 beginning at 3:00 pm.
