Although our sorrow is great, we are comforted in knowing Tommy grew up of the Methodist faith and was ready to go to his heavenly home.
Tommy was a long time resident of Greeneville. He was a graduate of South Greene High School. He then enrolled at Cleveland State Community College where he played basketball. He earned his BS and masters degree at ETSU. He was a teacher and principal in the Greene County school System and later served on the Greene County school board. He became a State Farm Insurance agent January 1, 1980. He built his business on a foundation of honesty and integrity and never promised more than he could deliver. His clients respected and trusted him.
Tommy was elected by the citizens to serve in the TN House of Representatives for six years and the TN State Senate for eight years. He accomplished many great things while serving in this capacity. He was excited to hear ideas to strengthen the community and address concerns. He was known for lending an ear to any person in need and working relentlessly to get their problems solved. His priority was to serve all: friend or foe.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents: Reverend Taylor and Gertrude Haun.
Tommy is survived by his daughter: Debany Elizabeth Haun. He is also survived by two sisters: Ann (Wade) McCamey and Eddie (Curtis) Yates. Tommy had several nieces and nephews: Tonya (Ryan) Wilson, Todd (Amanda) McCamey, and Trent D. Henry; great nieces and nephews: Chloe Smith, Allie McCamey, and Butler Smith.
Tommy was our family's rock, source of wisdom and encourager. He will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7 pm Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home and again Sunday 1-2 pm preceding the funeral service at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Jim Fields officiating.
Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
