Terry A. Fitzgerald, 80 years old, of Midway, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Brookdale Assisted Living. To know him was to love him, his outlook and vision was always captured in all the many endeavors and projects he facilitated throughout the Nation. Although he was always in motion, home was the farm in Midway, TN.
Terry was born June 6th 1943, in Mangham Louisiana to the late Aubrey and Thera Fitzgerald. As a young boy Terry always had an eye for construction and engineering in addition to a passion for all things outdoors. Terry was a member of Brown Springs Baptist Church. During the days of “The Battle of Blue Springs” he found great pleasure in assisting his Pastor in blessing the troops in the reenactments. Terry was a force of nature with his capable ways and brilliant mind. He was a retired construction engineer. When his days of professional travel ended, he became the owner and operator of Midway Construction Company. He was also a Mason and Shriner in Omar, SC. His faith and love for others has left a legacy behind that has made his family so proud. He was often known as a “Mule Skinner” as a member of East TN Mule and Draft Horse Association. He along with his late wife Willie always made a point to make it to Mule Days in middle TN where they met many lifetime friends. Terry had a love for the Lord and in his unwavering faith, his blessings were abundant.
Family to Terry was his legacy. He and his late wife Willie were blessed with 51 years of marriage. The adventures they shared together were a tribute to their love story. Terry always made sure that the ones he loved knew it and felt it.
He is survived by his wife: Tina Fitzgerald of Rayville, LA. He was loving Father to three children: Pamela Ammons and husband Scott of Raton, New Mexico, Mike Fitzgerald and wife Camellia of Midway, TN and Amy Sharp and husband Gene of Rossville, GA. He was a loving Papaw to Christopher and wife Gladys Fitzgerald, Ashlea and husband Justin Baskette, Elizabeth Banks and Casey McKinney, Melissa and husband Charlie Gentry, Marlowe and Husband Jake Widener and Wyatt Fitzgerald. And a loving Paw to Trenton Malone, Layla Malone, Shani-Lea Short, Todd Cummings, Aubrea Baskette, Will Baskette, Brooklynn Banks, Lillie Banks, Tristan Banks. And Brother to his sister Linda Snipes. His marriage to Tina blessed him with an extended family in which he became T-Paw.
He was blessed with many additional loved ones including a special nephew Greg Gilley in which he shared a flair of all things western, and fun filled adventures. Jeff Moore whom he shared a special bond with for over 35 years and continues his legacy through Midway Construction and Plumbing by leaving his flair for quality craftsmanship. Stan Stewart whom he loved like an additional son. During the last couple of years Terry crossed paths will a very special extended family in Mikeal and Jennifer Tarlton. Not only did they show great love and compassion for him they enriched his final days with adventure and laughter.
He will always be Papaw to all those that crossed his path and was blessed to feel his love. A special thanks to Brookedale Assisted Living and Amedysis Hospice.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life: Willie Fitzgerald; his father: Aubrey Fitzgerald and mother Thera Fitzgerald and a sister: Sherry Montgomery.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Friday, July 28, 2023. The memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Kiser-Rose Hill with the Rev. Richard Long officiating.
