Mr Higgins was a member of Central Baptist Church.
He worked 36 years for Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, Virginia.
He was born in Yancy County, North Carolina and lived in Greeneville for the past 26 years.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years: Edgel Higgins; daughter and son-in-law: Joyce and John Brannis of Smithfield, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law: Steve and Edna Higgins of Greeneville; grandchildren: Brad and wife Rachel Higgins of Conover, North Carolina, Traci and husband Mike Myers of Greeneville, Julia Brannis of Fredricksburg, Virginia, Janine Brannis of Orlando, Florida, and Sherry Banks of Burnsville, North Carolina; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son: Gene Higgins, a grandson, Justin Higgins, his parents, Gus and Dollie Higgins, four brothers, and three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Todd Abbey officiating.
Interment will be at 10:00 am Wednesday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30am to go in procession to the cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
