He retired from the Town of Greeneville and was owner of 11-E Auction.
Mr. Roberts was a member of Greenelawn Baptist Church.
He was promoter for TWA Wrestling and was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years: Brenda Starcher Roberts; sons: Roy C. Roberts, Jr. and wife, Natasha, Marty Collins , Danny Ricker, all of Greeneville, Jimmy Roberts and wife, Laura, of Illinois; daughters: Rhonda Ricker and husband, Matthew, Angie Collins, Shannon Ivy and husband, James, Tohnya Grey and husband, Karl, all of Greeneville; adopted daughter: Deanna Roberts; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; brothers: Johnny Russell and wife, Cathy, David Russell, and Donald Roberts; sisters: Barbara A. Dayton, Wanda F. Dagnan, Della M. Murray, Kathy A. deBlonk, Sue Fagg and husband, Carl, Joeann Russell Conley, Syble Hester and husband, Junior, and Shirley Russell; sisters-in-law: Teresa Banks and husband, Billy, who were also special caregivers, Charlotte Carmack and husband, Chester, Shelba Fillers; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Chester Sewell Roberts and Annie Bell Russell and was preceded in death by his stepmother, Louise Roberts; stepfather, Jim Russell; a son, Billy J. Roberts; grandparents, Joe and Helen Hatcher; sisters: Dinah Jean Roberts, Vivian J. Teel, Linda Sue Roberts; brother, Ronny Russell; uncles: Otis Hatcher, Bobby Joe Hatcher and Howard Hatcher; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Lena Starcher; and brothers-in-law: Preston Starcher, Sr., Gene Starcher, H. D. Starcher and Richard Starcher.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 8 pm Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Danny Ricker and Rev. Claude Swatzell officiating.
Interment will be at 11 am Wednesday in Cedar Creek Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10 am Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his son, Roy C. Roberts, Jr., and grandsons: Brandon Ivy, Allen Cutshall, Nicholas Roberts, Brock Church, Clint Brobeck, Dave Ivy, Cory Cutshall, and Jeremy Davis.
Honorary Pallbearers are employees of the Town of Greeneville.
