He drove a transfer truck before retiring in 1978.
He was a Protestant by faith.
Mr. Shelton was a member of VFW Post #1990 and the Chuckey Ruritan Club, where he worked hard getting the baseball field fixed.
Survivors include his daughter: Dorothy Shelton of the home; brother: Manley “Jack” Shelton, Jr. of Asheville; several special nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; sisters-in-law: Hilda Shelton and Louise Southerland of Greeneville; and special friends: his Davey Crockett camping buddies.
He was the son of the late Manley and Martha Shelton and was preceded in death by his wife: Bonnie Gay Shelton; a son: Kelso Richard Shelton; brothers: Carson, Loren, Merrill, and Ursie Shelton; and sisters: Madeline Crum, Vertie Fox, and Eva Kozel.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 16, at Horse Creek Church of God with Rev. Steve Hux officiating. It is requested that family meet at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Saturday to go in procession to the funeral service.
Interment will follow in Horse Creek Cemetery.
His pallbearers will be Gary Shelton, Rickey Shelton, Wayne Southerland, Ralph Bohannon, Dudley Spooner, and David Dotson.
