He was born on Aug. 11, 1937 to George and Sherley Holt.
He graduated from St. James High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Gregg Holt.
He was a member of the Army Reserves for 6 years and was employed at Magnavox in Jefferson City.
He drove a van full of employees from Greeneville to the JC Plant and later worked for Magnavox in Morristown. He also worked for the Telephone Company and was owner/operator of the West Main Restaurant. He was very active in the life of his church and community.
He was a member of the St. James Ruritan Club and was a charter member of the St. James Fire Department. He grew up in the Church of God, and after their marriage, he faithfully attended St. James Lutheran Church with Peggy and her family.
Oscar was friend to everyone and thoroughly enjoyed life.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Holt; brother, Jerry (Wanda) Holt; sister-in-Law: Linda Gammon; brother-in-law, James (Carolyn) Gregg; nieces: Carla (Todd) Reaves, Kelly Holt, VeVette (David Jenkins) Turner, Christy (Stuart) Hoeke, and Lori (Brian) Tanner; nephews, Jeffrey (Traci) Holt, Victor (Anita) Conner; special friend, Wayne Gunter; great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He had no children of his own but was loved by all the children who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Carter and Suiva Neas Gregg; brother, Ronnie (Shelby) Holt; and nephew, Terrance Gregg.
The family will recieve friends on Thursday, May 23 from 5:00 until 7:00pm at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 7:00pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverends Paula Smith and Brice Casey officiating.
Interment will be in the St. James Memorial Cemetery on Friday, May 24 at 11:00 a. m. Friends and family are asked to meet at the Cemetery at 10:45am for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Victor Conner, Michael Gregg, Stuart Hoeke, Jeffrey Holt, Kim Neas, and Todd Reaves.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or the St. James Elevator Fund.
