

Maxine Esmé Webster Hodde, the eldest of 3 children, was born to Pastor Maxwell M. Webster and Louisa Marais Webster on June 7, 1927, at Malamulo Mission Hospital in Malawi, East Africa. She passed quietly to her rest, on Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2015.
Maxine was educated in South Africa and worked for several years as a Dean of Girls and teacher in Seventh-day Adventist Boarding Schools in South Africa, Malawi and Zimbabwe. In 1966, she moved with her brother Athol and his family to the United States. The family settled in Glendale, California, where she met and married Erwin F. Hodde.
Following Mr. Hodde’s retirement in 1984, the couple moved to Greeneville, where Maxine worked as a unit secretary at Takoma Adventist Hospital until she retired at the age of 75, in 2002.
Maxine was a very active member of the Greeneville Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed sending greeting cards for all occasions as well as knitting, sewing and flower gardening until her husband passed away in 2009. She continued her greeting card ministry up until a few weeks prior to her passing away.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Athol and Winston; and her husband, Erwin. She leaves to mourn: her nephew, Dr. Michael Webster; his wife: Eilene and their three children of Redlands, California, and her church family, neighbors, and many friends in the community.
The viewing will be held at the Greeneville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 710 Asheville Highway, from 1 pm - 3 pm on Sunday, March 29, with the funeral service following at 3 pm with Pastor Jeremy Arnall officiating. Burial will be at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Greeneville Seventh-day Adventist Church for Greeneville Adventist Academy and the Community Service Center.
