Mary Magdalene Waddell Hixon, age 88, of Greeneville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She retired from Greene Manufacturing Clothing Company in 1981, where she worked as a seamstress for 27 years, and later was devoted to caring for her late husband, Billy Hixon. Her sense of humor and beautiful smile would light up any room. She loved the Lord and her family with all of her heart and modeled virtues of grace and humility. She always told her granddaughter, “Pretty is as pretty does,” and “Mamie” was truly beautiful.
She is survived by her loving daughters and son-in-law: Janet Hixon and Judy and Connalee Crawford, all of Greeneville; her grandchildren and their spouses, who she adored: Angela Crawford (Matthew) Hubbard of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Brian (Jennifer) Crawford of Hampstead, North Carolina; her treasured great grandchildren: Coleman Hubbard, Samantha Crawford, and Mason Crawford; sisters-in-law: Ida Ruth Bowers, Kate Waddell, and Ruth Hixson; special aunt, Marjorie Malone; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces: Peggy Dunn and Charlotte Guy; and special friends: Phyllis Jones, Joan Seaton, and Jane Ricker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Sevier Hixon; her parents, James Waddell and Cora Lee Keller Waddell; father-in-law, Lloyd Clark Hixson; mother-in-law, Stella Viola Wilhoit Hixson; sister, Debbie McMillan; and brothers: Chester, Astor, Barney, William, Oscar, Decatur, and William Henderson (W.H.) Waddell.
She attended Victory Church of God as long as her health permitted.
The family will receive friends from 1pm-3pm and 5pm-7pm Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow visitation at 7:00 pm, with the Reverends Jim Fillers and Dale Shelton officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at 9:00 am Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home to go in procession to GreeneLawn Memory Gardens for a graveside service at 10:00 am.
Pallbearers will be Brian Crawford, Matthew Hubbard, Ernie Dunn, Shawn Jones, Shane Jones, and Richard Southerland.
