She was a devoted and loving mother, being very proud of her children and family and loved them all very much. She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved to cook and work in her flowers.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Charlene Hickman of the home and Patsy and Billy Barton of Church Hill; sons and daughters-in-law: Larry Charlton of the home and Gary and Debbie Charlton and Dean and Debbie Charlton of Baileyton; half-sisters: Francis Shipley and Clyde Heck; sister-in-law: Ila Dykes of Baileyton; brother-in-law and wife: Eddie and Lorraine Charlton of Baileyton; grandchildren: Rocky and Ammie Hickman, Jason Hickman, Tonya and Brian Wagner, Pamela and Lynn Yates and Rose Charlton, all of Greeneville, Brandy and Ryan Marshall, Samuel Barton, April and Jamie Skeen, Jason and Nora Barton, and Billy Jr. and Kim Barton, all of Church Hill, and Jennifer and Josh Broyles and Justin and Ladenna Barger, both of Baileyton; special niece: Mary Mullins of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; 25 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years: Samuel Jack Charlton in 2004; two granddaughters: Sonja Charlton and Sarah Charlton; parents: Grant and Rosa Mathes; sisters: Magdalene Mathes and Janet McCamey; brothers: David, Noah, and Joe Mathes; and a half-brother: Kenneth Chandley.
The family will receive friends from 1pm-3pm and 5pm-7pm Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state for 30 minutes preceding the funeral service at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday with Rev. Roger Dykes, Rev. Charles Ricker, and Rev. Pete Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in Bethany FWB Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Billy Jr., Jason, and Samuel Barton, Justin Barger, Hunter Hensley, and Kenny Ricker.
The family extends a special thank-you to Amedisys Hospice of Kingsport and the third floor nursing staff at Wilcox Hall.
