Lorraine Sommerville Nelson, 99, passed away Saturday, September 3 at her home surrounded by loving family. She now rests in Jesus, awaiting the call of the Lifegiver at the glorious second coming of our Lord and Savior.
Lorraine led a full and varied life. Professionally, she was a registered nurse, spending many years working in her husband’s surgical practice then later in extended care facilities. Her career spanned many years not retiring at age 86. She enjoyed raising her family and was involved in many of their activities, including her work with Pathfinders, their youth club. She volunteered in many other church capacities, most notably as an organist and children’s Bible teacher. Her most recent volunteer activity was with the Community Service Center here in Greeneville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Harry C. Nelson, Jr.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Harry C. Nelson, III (Lynda) and Ron Nelson (Debbie); her daughter, LouAnn Nelson; two grandchildren and spouses, Eric Nelson (Rachel), and Kristina Nelson Hall (Tyson); five great-grandchildren; a brother, Bud Sommerville (Marj); and many nieces and nephews.
Special recognition and thanks go to exceptional caregivers, Mary Caine, Nilsa Martinez, Dawn Myers, Jody Palm, Naicelis Salas, Kella Shipley, and Carol Wetmore. The staff of Amedysis Hospice has also provided outstanding care and support.
A celebration of life will be held at the Greeneville Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 1:00 pm preceded by visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Pastor Jeremy Arnall will officiate.
Interment will occur Monday, October 3, 2022 at 10:00 am, in the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
