He attended Horse Creek Church of God as long as his health permitted.
Joe was a loving husband, brother, and friend. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was in the U. S. Army and served a tour of duty during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife: Sherry Murdock Wheeler; sisters and brother-in-law: Ann Dixon, Ellen and Dale Dyer; stepson and wife: Kevin and Heidi Turner; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Dora Wheeler, Phyllis Davis, Kay and Ken Culver; nieces and nephews: Erica and Erick Gordon, Tim Wheeler, Karen and Jack Brooks; and several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel O. and Roxie Poe Wheeler; brother: Wade Wheeler; nephew: John Dixon; brother-in-law: Gene Dixon; and mother-in-law and father-in-law: Noble and Evelyn Murdock.
The family will receive friends from 3pm-7pm Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bobby Morrison officiating.
Interment will be at 11:00 am Saturday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend the military graveside service should be at the funeral home by 10:00 am Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Glen Ward, Erick Gordon, Lloyd Ward, Billy Owens, Chris O’Dell, and Tim Wheeler.
