He was a farmer and retired employee of Food City with 20 plus years of service.
Tommie was a US Army Veteran where he had the rank of Sergeant E5.
He enjoyed spending time on his farm raising produce to take to the Farmer’s Market and always making molasses every year. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as having Sunday dinner with his family. He was a very kind hearted and generous man to all he came in contact with; especially the many friends he had made at the Farmer’s Market. He will be dearly missed and the memory of him will be cherished by all.
He is survived by his grandchildren John Southerland, Noah (Becca) Southerland, and Hannah Hoyle; great-grandchildren Kane Southerland and Kayleigh Southerland; daughter-in-law Nancy Southerland; and sisters-in-law Patty Fortner and Bernice Southerland. Tommie is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Myra Shelton.
Tommie was the son of the late Charlie and Ora Lee Southerland, and is preceded in death by his wife, Romaine Southerland, and his son, Christopher Southerland. Also preceding in death are: a sister Minnie B. Massey and brother-in-law Eldridge Massey; and three brothers Glenn (Lillian) Southerland, Andrew (Ruth) Southerland, and Charles Southerland.
The family will receive friends at 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 12 noon on Friday in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel officiated by Rev. Jason McCoy.
Interment will follow in River Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Hannah Hoyle, Noah Southerland, Eric Shelton, Kasey Shelton, Mike Barham, and Wayne Phillips.
