John R. Davis, age 88, of Greeneville, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 28, 2024, surrounded by family. He was a member of Cedar Creek Church of God. He worked at Magnavox, drove a school bus for Cedar Creek School and farmed as long as his health permitted.
He was a Godly man, a wonderful husband, dad, uncle, brother, and papaw. He was always willing to help others in need, whether it be farming, mechanicing or whatever it may be, he was there. We all will strive to be more like him every day until we meet him on the other side.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lucendia Davis; two daughters: Amy (Brian) Britt and Kim Davis; two special nieces: Sandra (Mark) Ramsey and Becky (Jonathan) Waddell; grandchildren: Nicholas Britt, Chad Smith, Ashley Waddell, Christopher and Ellis Waddell; great grandchildren: Grayson Britt, Josephine Britt, Henry Britt, Westin Smith and Skylar Smith; two sisters: Barbara Davis and Mary Ruth (David) Harmon; brothers-in-law: Deannie Goins, Rommie (Nancy) Goins, Kent (Jaymie) Goins and Trent Taylor; sisters-in-law: Ann Rader and Sheila Goins Shipley; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Viola Davis; a son, Kendall Lyle Davis; three infant brothers; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Wells; special nephew, Lyle McAmis; grandson, Ben Britt; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marlene (Bob Foreman, Curtis Wilhoit); sister-in-law, Priscilla Taylor and brother-in-law, Dexter Goins.
The family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 pm Monday and 1:00-2:00 pm Tuesday at Cedar Creek Church of God. The funeral service will then be held at 2:00 pm at the church with Rev. Dwayne Pierce and Rev. Brice Casey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Cox and Rev. Sam Chaffin officiating.
Pallbearers will be Todd Davis, Joe Waddell, Jeff Waddell, Eddie Crum, Bucky Ayers, Jeff Crum, Nick Crum, and Doug Renner. Honorary pallbearers will be the Challengers Class at Cedar Creek Church of God, Minnis Waddell, Harold Love, Silas (Cotton) Seaton, Donald Collins, Winfred Solomon, Mike Myers and David Myers.
The family expresses a special thank you to the nurses of Amedisys Hospice, Megan Copas, RN and Amber Norris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Creek Church of God Building Fund, 2800 Cedar Creek Road, Greeneville, TN 37743.
