Mr. Britton was a former employee of the Kingsport Press and Philips Consumer Electronics. After he retired, he enjoyed working on the farm, raising crops and attending cattle.
He was a member of Cross Anchor Presbyterian Church and later moved his membership to Ottway Community Church.
Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Jean Britton; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Leasia Britton of Greeneville; two granddaughters, Amanda (Austin) Smith and Samantha Britton (fiancé, Lynn Wilmoth); two great grandchildren, Aaron and Adam Smith; three sisters-in-law: Nancy Chapman, Brenda Carter, and Diane Britton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Kate Britton; two brothers, Johnny Bill Britton and George Britton; and a sister-in-law, Rose Mary Britton.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 pm Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will then be held at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Sam Smith will officiate.
Interment will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday at Cross Anchor Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Smith, Lynn Wilmoth, Mark Britton, Mike Brown, David Stanifer, and Robin Chapman. Honorary pallbearers are R.P. Whittenburg, Bobby Blazer, J.L. Phillips, Roy Weems, Jimmy Sauls, and Hobert Reynolds.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:00 pm Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
