Jack was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II and receiving three medals. He was a member of Beersheba Lodge #449 for 70 years. He was a retired bookkeeper and farmer.
Jack was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church on Kelly Gap Road. He and Sara attended Red Hill Church as long as their health permitted.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Sara Wilson Bowman in January, 2017; his parents, Russell and Bessie Bowman; two brothers and their spouses: Don and Lucille Bowman, Willis and Barbara Bowman; four sisters and their spouses: Juanita and Woody Crum; Covey and Clay Woolsey; Swannee and Luke Fillers; and Wilda and Jay Chandler.
He is survived by two nieces who were caregivers: Judy Bettis and Vicki Jones; and by several other nieces and nephews.
A special thank you for great caregivers: Dale Fann, Sherry Howard, Elizabeth Murray, Tim Reynolds, Ginger Jennings, Mary Ann Riddle and Gina Pangelinan; the nurses and doctors of VA and Amedysis Hospice.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00-7:00 pm at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The service will be at be 7 pm in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. David Jicka will officiate.
Interment will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at Greenelawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bryan R. Jones, Chris Cramer, Mason Anderson, Tracy Canaster, David Crum, Brayden Jones, Tim Smithson and Don E. Chandler.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 9:15 am Monday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard and The US Navy Honors Team will conduct a military graveside service.
