Born into a large family, Irene was the youngest of 13 children. She was raised in the Brittontown Community, where she lived until she married her husband, Joe Morrison. The couple lived in several places including, Ohio, Illinois, Morristown, and Whitesburg, before settling in Mosheim.
Irene worked for Hurd Lock and then Magnavox, where she was employed until retirement. At Magnavox, she was very active in the IUE Local 793 and served for many years as Chief Steward. Irene was also very active in our local YMCA, and taught water Aerobics three times per week for several years.
She was a longtime member of Greene Hill Baptist Church, and a current member of Brown Springs Baptist Church. Her faith in Jesus sustained both her and her family through many tragic events. She handled each tragedy with dignity and grace, constantly leaning on and pointing her family to the Lord.
Irene is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Morgan; grandchildren, Robin Morrison, DJ (Sara) Morrison, Micky Morrison, Amy Jo Morrison (Doug Riley), Rodney (Christy) Spillman, Jimmie Lynn (John) Lane, Jeremy Morgan, and Ginger (Bill) Clark. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Sophie and William Morrison, Bernardo and Makani Burga, Andrew Clark, Rory and Breanna Morgan, Samantha, Madison, Morgan, Alexis and Kinsley Spillman, Dennis Cannon, Cody Morrison, Whitney Humbert, Jaiden, Jace, Jax, and Jayla Lane; great great grandchildren, David Cannon, Gage Brown and Grayson and Liam Lambert. As well as numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jan and Glennon Brown, Gladys Brown, Kay and Darryle Collingsworth, Linda Carlson, Terry and Christy Kramer, Jerry and Debbie Wilkerson, Fred Franklin, Linda Bowman, Doug and Carolyn Ratledge, Sherry Patrick, Madison Cole, Debbie Cutshaw, Lyndsey Pickering, Pam Lane, Rachel Thompson and Jane Ricker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; sons, Jeff, Don, Randy and David Lynn; grandsons, David and Danny; brothers and sister, special friends, Ruth and Jerry Carlson; her mother, Cordie Holland Gammon and father, William Richard “Bill” Gammon.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at Kiser Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm in the Chapel of Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Winchester officiating.
Interment will follow in Doty’s Chapel, Afton.
Pallbearers are Roger Brown, Jason Clark, Darryle Collingsworth, Terry Kramer, Charles Lindley and Tony Haye.
