He was a farmer and retired from UT Tobacco Experiment Station.
Mr. Effler was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Phillip and Carol Effler, Keith and Elizabeth Effler, Benny and Carol Effler; six grandchildren: Justin Effler, Brandon Effler, Trenton Effler, Jamie Swift and husband Dean, Tracy Effler, Jennifer Effler; one great grandchild: Quiana Cradic; and sisters-in-law: Polly McAfee and Mary Sue Fann.
He was the son of the late John Carmen and Rodila Ramsey Effler and was preceded in death by his wife: Bertha Mae Effler; one son: Jerry Effler; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Bill and Georgia Hale; brothers-in-law: Gene Hale, A.T. McAfee, and Willard Fann; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Maude and Hersey Trump, Elsie and Wayne Robertson, and Vernie and Ed Tinker; and two brothers and sisters-in-law: Clifford and Mae Effler and Cletus and Macey Effler.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home preceding the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Doug White and Andy Seals will officiate.
Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
His pallbearers will be Charlie Ricker, Richard Hensley, Wayne Gibson, Charlie Click, Justin Effler, Aaron Daniel, Scotty Fillers, and Mike Riddle.
The nursing staff of ICU and 3rd floor of Takoma Hospital and the staff of the Research and Education Center (formerly UT Tobacco Experiment Station) will serve as honorary pallbearers.
