She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Laurel and Hot Springs in North Carolina and Paint Creek and Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and was a business owner.
She was a Presbyterian by faith.
During World War II, she supported the war effort by working for the Glen L. Martin Aviation Industry in Baltimore, Maryland, as a personnel counselor. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed canning, and was a professional quilter.
Survivors include two sisters and brother-in-law: Ruby W. Roberts and Emily W. and Walter S. Smith of Greeneville with whom she made her home; sister-in-law: Gladys Wallin of Hampton, Virginia; a niece: Ruby Niemimen of Greeneville; nephews: Bobby Wallin and wife, Carolyn, of Hampton, Virginia, Johnnie Wallin and wife, Mary of Richfield, Virginia, and Ricky Wallin and wife, Cindy, of Rustburg, Virginia; and several great nieces and great nephews.
She was the daughter of the late James and Nepul Franklin Wallin and was preceded in death by her husband, Fred R. Shelton, and a brother, James Wallin, Jr.
The family will receive friends 12 – 3 pm Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles Hutchins and Rev. James Lively officiating.
Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Wallin, Johnny Wallin, Rev. Ricky Wallin, Bob Momich, Jeff Barden, and Jeff Ward.
Honorary Pallbearers are Walter Smith, Gilbert Tweed, Johnny Tweed, Clarence Tweed, the 3rd floor staff and the 4th floor staff (the Rehab Unit) of Takoma Regional Hospital, Dr. Pratt, Dr. Murray, and Dr. Overholt and staff.
